Managing and Customizing Data Visualizations in ark
This guide explains how to use ark's Visualizations feature to view, customize, and analyze financial data across Admin and LP portals. These visual dashboards offer summary cards, graphs, and metrics tailored to fund management, capital accounts, and investments.
Basic Admin users and Ark Client Admin users can also control exactly which visualizations LP Contacts and read-only Fund Users see, using the LP/GP View Controls panel.

- Understand available visualizations for Admin and LP portals
Who Can Use This Feature
Only Ark Client Admin users can:
- Turn the visualizations feature on or off per page
- Access the Feature Config tab in Client Configuration
Basic Admin and Ark Client Admin users can:
- Access the LP/GP View Controls panel (tune icon) on the Admin Portal's Capital Accounts and Funds pages
- Configure the visualization options available to LP Portal Contacts and read-only Fund Users on the Admin Portal
- Turn individual summary cards, metrics, charts, and graphs on or off for the entire client, and control their order
- Continue to customize their own personal views via the gear icon, as in current production
No other user types can customize visualizations.
Read-only Fund Users (GP users on the Admin Portal) and LP Portal Contacts:
- View Funds & Capital Account visualizations only. Their view is dictated by the options set by Basic Admin and Ark Client Admin users via the LP/GP View Controls.
Overview: Visualizations
Ark's Visualizations feature enhances data analysis through customizable dashboards with summary cards, graphs, and performance metrics. Visualizations are grouped by:
- Admin Funds
- Admin Capital Accounts
- LP Capital Accounts
Views include:
- Dashboard (visuals only)
- Hybrid (visuals + data grid)
- Data View (raw data)
There are two independent layers of configuration, each with its own icon:
Personal dashboard view (gear icon)
- Available to Basic Admin and Ark Client Admin users
- Affects only that individual user's own view
- No longer available to read-only Fund Users or LP Portal Contacts
LP/GP View Controls (tune icon)
- Available to Basic Admin and Ark Client Admin users
- Affects the view for all LP Portal Contacts and read-only Fund Users for that client
The two layers are independent: changes made in LP/GP View Controls never change a Basic Admin or Ark Client Admin user's own personal dashboard, and vice versa.
Step-by-Step: Turning Visualizations On or Off (Ark Client Admin users only)
-
Navigate to the client dashboard
-
Click the three-dot menu and select Edit '[Client Name]'
-
Go to the Feature Config tab
-
Use toggles to enable:
-
Admin Funds Visualizations
-
Admin Capital Accounts Visualizations
-
LP Portal Capital Accounts Visualizations
-
- Changes apply portal-wide based on user permissions
Step-by-Step: Navigating and Customizing Personal Visualizations
To Customize Visualizations:
-
Click the settings gear icon to enter Edit Mode
-
Remove or rearrange elements using “-” or drag-and-drop
-
Add cards or graphs back using the “+” button
-
Exit Edit Mode by clicking the gear icon again
Notes:
-
Visualizations automatically group by currency and update based on applied filters
- These settings are personal to the individual Basic Admin or Ark Client Admin user and do not affect what LP Contacts or read-only Fund Users see
- Read-only Fund Users and LP Portal Contacts no longer see the gear icon and cannot customize their own view
Step-by-Step: Configuring the LP/GP View
Available to Basic Admin and Ark Client Admin users on the Admin Portal's Capital Accounts and Funds pages.
- Open the Capital Accounts (or Funds) page for the client
- Click the tune icon (tooltip: LP/GP View Controls), located to the left of the standard dashboard gear icon in the upper-right of the page

- The LP/GP View Controls panel opens on the right, with the subtitle "Configure what LP Contacts and read-only Fund Users can see." It is divided into two sections:
- Metrics: summary cards and metric cards (e.g. Capital Committed, Funded, Unfunded, Distributions, Value, RVPI, DPI, TVPI, % Unfunded, % Funded, MOCC)
- Charts and Graphs: e.g. Committed By Fund, Total Value and Distributions, Committed to Paid

- Use the toggle on each row to turn that card, metric, or chart on or off for the client
- Use the up/down arrow buttons on each row to reorder cards within their section (for example, moving one metric above another)
- Click Save (or Cancel to discard)
- A confirmation dialog appears: Update LP/GP Views?: "This action will refresh the LP Portal Contacts view for this client and update the Read-Only view in the Admin Portal. Summary cards, metrics, charts and graphs will be turned on or off based on the settings saved. Continue with this update?" Click Continue to apply, or Close to go back.
What saving does:
- Updates the configuration for the entire client, dictating the view for all LP Contacts and read-only Fund Users

- Refreshes the LP Portal Contacts view and the Read-Only view in the Admin Portal
- Does not change the Basic Admin or Ark Client Admin user's own dashboard, which continues to be managed with the gear icon
System defaults:
- If the LP/GP View Controls have never been configured for a client, the system automatically displays a set of System Defaults to LP Contacts and read-only Fund Users.
Data consistency:
- Visualizations continue to pull data from transaction mapping and rely on stable internal codes rather than display labels. If a client renames a column (for example, renaming "Committed" to "Investment Amount"), the visualizations remain accurate.

FAQ
Q: Why isn’t my data updating in real time on the LP portal?
A: Visualizations reflect the most recently published quarter. Real-time changes are not shown unless data is published.
Q: What's the difference between the gear icon and the tune icon?
A: The gear icon controls a Basic Admin or Ark Client Admin user's own personal dashboard. The tune icon (LP/GP View Controls) controls what LP Contacts and read-only Fund Users see for the entire client.
Q: Can LP Contacts or read-only Fund Users turn cards on/off or reorder them?
A: No. The settings gear icon has been removed from their interface, so they can no longer customize their own visualizations. Their dashboards reflect the view saved by Basic Admin or Ark Client Admin users in LP/GP View Controls.
Q: Will renaming a column break the visualizations?
A: No. Visualizations rely on stable internal codes from transaction mapping rather than display labels, so renaming a column (e.g. "Committed" to "Investment Amount") does not affect accuracy.
Q: Does changing LP/GP View Controls affect a Basic Admin or Ark Client Admin user's own dashboard?
A: No, the two are independent.
