Who Can Use This Feature

This feature is available to:

  • Ark Client Admin users

  • Basic Admin users with appropriate fund access

Note: arkGL is available only on the full version of the Ark platform. Contact sales@arkpes.com or your fund administrator if it’s not yet enabled.

Before You Begin

Make sure the following requirements are met:

  • arkGL is enabled for your client configuration
  • You have relevant fund and currency information
  • You understand your organization’s financial reporting structure

Multi-currency setup? You’ll need to create a separate ledger for each currency used by the fund.

Step-by-Step: Creating a General Ledger

You can create a General Ledger from either the side nav or within a fund's detail view.

Option 1: From the Side Navigation Menu
  1. Go to the General Ledger tab

  2. Click Set Up

  3. Click Add New

  4. Select the fund you want to link

  5. Click the Ark logo, then click Connect

This action links the ledger to the fund and enables GL configuration

  6. Enter a Ledger Name, choose a Currency, and (optionally) add a Description

  7. Click Save & Close

Option 2: From a Specific Fund
  1. Go to the Funds tab

  2. Select the fund

  3. Open the General Ledger dropdown > click Setup

  4. Follow the same steps as above to add and connect the ledger

Step-by-Step: Deleting a General Ledger

You cannot delete any ledger that has posted journal entries.

You can delete ledgers either from the side navigation or a specific fund.

From the Side Navigation Menu
  1. Go to General Ledger > Set Up

  2. Use checkboxes to select one or more ledgers

  3. Click Delete Selected (n) from the action dropdown

  4. Confirm the deletion prompt

From a Fund’s Page
  1. Open the Funds tab

  2. Select the fund

  3. Go to General Ledger > Setup

  4. Repeat steps 2–4 above

This action is permanent and cannot be undone.

Best Practices

  • Plan Ahead
Choose single vs. multi-currency setup early. Each currency requires a separate ledger.

  • Use Clear Naming Conventions
Descriptive ledger names improve visibility when managing multiple funds.

  • Leverage arkGL Features
Setting up your ledger unlocks powerful automations:

    • Automated investor allocations

    • Integrated capital activity

    • Real-time Schedule of Investments (SOI) updates

    • PCAP generation and cash reconciliation

  • Private Blockchain Security
All entries are recorded on Ark’s private blockchain infrastructure, ensuring tamper-proof auditability and data integrity.

FAQ

Q: Can I delete a ledger that has posted journal entries?
No. A ledger must be entry-free to be deleted.

Q: What makes arkGL better than using an external GL system?
arkGL is purpose-built for private funds and integrates directly with other ark modules like Allocations, SOI, and Investor Reporting - eliminating the need for disconnected systems or duplicate data entry.
